Easy Access Trail

Norsey Wood attracts many people because of its varied wildlife, its beauty and its tranquillity. However, in the past, some visitors were denied access to much of the Wood because of the steep terrain or the muddy conditions of some paths. The Easy Access Trail was designed and constructed by workparty members to provide the means for those with disabilities or mobility problems to enjoy a representative part of the Wood, enabling visitors to see something of its archaeological remains, to learn about the woodland management techniques used or to pursue interests in its many forms of wildlife. The trail was officially opened on the 25th August 1994.

A neutral material was used to surface the path, which balances with the woodland soil and also provides a suitable surface for pedestrians, wheelchair users and those pushing prams.

In the early months of 2003, the entire trail was resurfaced, again with a neutral material, and widened where necessary to improve it and to comply with recent legislation regarding access. Passing places have been added. Please note that the start of the trail in the clockwise direction is now on the far side of the picnic area by the Information Centre.

The trail is circular in layout, starting from the car park or information centre and is a little over half-a-mile (about 800 metres) in length. It takes in two pleasant viewing areas and covers four distinct aspects of the Wood. Benches are provided along the trail. An electric buggy is available for visitors. Please phone 01277 624553 to ensure availability.
